THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOS

For those of us who lived through it, the Winter of 2014 was one to remember. And hopefully will be one to quickly forget. Frigid, below-average temperatures and piles of snow and ice were the norm. I’m not really a winter person (I did live in Los Angeles for 22 years) but eventually I surrendered and decided to turn lemons into lemonade. The result? My first collection of abstracts.

These images are all either snow, ice or really cold water captured with a long telephoto lens at high magnification. I then brought the photos into Photoshop and transformed the colors using hue, saturation, and contrast controls. Abstract art is a bit of a departure for me, but definitely fun. Hopefully we won’t have another extreme winter anytime soon. But if we do, I’ll be ready to take advantage once again.
