THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOS

Watch my YouTube video about these photos.

Belmar, New Jersey is yet another jewel of a resort town that typifies the Jersey Shore. Established in 1885 and located in north Central NJ, Belmar is a popular vacation destination due to its beautiful beaches and close proximity to New York and Philadelphia. In addition to its world-class beach, it also features a gorgeous boardwalk and five star shopping and restaurants.

Like other places along the Eastern Seaboard, Belmar suffered significant damage as a result of Hurricane (“Superstorm”) Sandy. I’m happy to say, the town is almost fully restored and open for business. However, one victim of the storm still waiting for relief is the fishing pier. As you can see from these images, the ocean side sustained major damage in the storm and has not been repaired.

These photos coincided with the “Super Moon” phenomenon that took place in early August 2014. I have done some enhancement to them (mostly compositing multiple exposures) to create an accurate representation of how I remember the moon interacting with the other elements (land, sea, sky and pier) that night. These finished images are offered as an artistic interpretation of those scenes.

I am so grateful to have such beauty just a short car drive away and that I have the time to pursue my vision of creating breathtaking art based on such beauty. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do.
