THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOS
The New Croton Dam is part of the New York City water system and stretches across the Croton River near Croton-on-Hudson, NY. It sits about 22 miles north of New York City and was built between 1892 and 1906. I had been wanting to photograph this amazing piece of engineering for some time and finally had a chance this past October. It is truly a breathtaking structure, combining functionality and raw beauty. The fact that the trees were ablaze with their fall colors didn't hurt either. About 20 minutes north of the Tappan Zee Bridge, it is well worth the drive.
